Acoustical Consulting Services
Wilkinson Murray offer a range of acoustical consulting services. These include, but are not limited to, the following:
Architectural & Building Acoustics
Specific acoustical needs vary from building to building and Wilkinson Murray's expertise will help enhance or optimise acoustical conditions within the building and the outside environment.
Working with project developers, architects, engineers and others, Wilkinson Murray has been involved in the acoustical design and development of a number of innovative methods of acoustical control for:
- museum
and exhibition spaces
- theatres and auditoria
- law court buildings
- film, TV and sound studios
- hotel and conference facilities
- multi storey offices
- residential buildings
Wilkinson Murray has been involved in the development of numerous resource based projects, from large open-cut coal mines to small rural quarries. Whilst the coal mines can cause significant noise and vibration impacts, largely because of their 24-hour operation, quarries can cause a similar impact because of their often close proximity to residential areas.
The firm is able to predict, assess and control noise levels from such operations and to design blasts to control the air blast and vibration affecting nearby sensitive areas.
Transportation Noise & Vibration
Wilkinson Murray is recognised as an Australian leader in the assessment and control of noise and vibration from all types of transportation. The services provided include the following:
- road traffic
noise - prediction, assessment and design of noise mitigation
- rail noise and vibration - control of noise from surface operations and
vibration and groundborne noise from
underground rail systems
- aircraft noise - airport planning and building design to control intruding
aircraft noise
- port noise - planning, prediction, assessment and control of noise
Construction Noise & Vibration
With large infrastructure projects being constructed in densely populated areas, the need for control of construction noise and vibration has become increasingly important. However, there is a practical limit to the level of control that can be implemented on most projects. Wilkinson Murray is able to provide advice on likely noise and vibration levels to be generated and methods of reducing these levels to comply with limits set by authorities and to meet community expectations. The firm can also provide noise and vibration monitoring services for construction projects, both attended or unattended monitoring. Wilkinson Murray is equally familiar with surface construction sites and underground tunnelling methods.
Manufacturing Noise & Vibration
Manufacturing industry is often located relatively close to residential areas and the common 24-hour operation can readily result in noise impacts. Wilkinson Murray is able to predict likely noise impacts in advance of the development and advise on noise mitigation methods. The mitigation often involves the detailed design of industrial buildings and noise control modifications to specific items of plant.
With years of professional and practical experience, Wilkinson Murray are well equipped to give informed and evidence in areas such as Planning, Legal Case and other general enquiries.
